2017 State Of Origin Odds: Game 3 Preview & Tips

July 11th, 2017

Queensland hosts the do-or-die series decider on Wednesday night and the State Of Origin 2017 odds for the home squad to win their 11th shield in 12 years have them as underdogs.

This is a must-win for both State Of Origin teams after the Blues gave away a dominant half-time lead in Game 2 and ended up needing to travel to Brisbane and win the third match at Suncorp Stadium.

It is a tough ask for the boys from south of the Tweed, but the bookies have the Blues as the $1.75 favourites at Ladbrokes.com.au in the latest State Of Origin odds to repeat their dominant 28 – 4 Game 1 success at the venue.

They’ve named an unchanged line-up for all three games for the first time since 1996, but there are a few injury concerns for the favourites including Boyd Cordner (calf), Tyson Frizell (ribs) and Josh Dugan (knee).

Queensland meanwhile are without Darius Boyd (thumb) and the inspirational Johnathan Thurston (shoulder) who won them Game 2 with his sideline conversion in the dying seconds of the game, which has seen them drift out to $2.15 in State Of Origin betting on Game 3.

State Of Origin Odds: Game 3

  • Queensland – $2.15
  • New South Wales – $1.75

There are no certainties in footy, but if you’re a punter there’s plenty to like about the dominant recent State Of Origin record of Queensland. History shows that since the best-of-three-series’ inception in 1982, there has been 18 deciders and 11 of those have been won by the Maroons.

That said, the Blues were upset Game 1 winners in their biggest Lang Park Origin win ever and their fast-paced style of football saw them run all over the Queenslanders.

If they learnt their lesson in the second-half of Game 2 then they could be runaway winners again, especially considering the depth of their interchange players including Jake Trbojevic.

State Of Origin Game 3 Tip: Back Andrew Fifita for Man Of The Match @ $11

State Of Origin Odds: Man Of The Match

  • Cameron Smith (QLD) – $7
  • James Tedesco (NSW) – $7
  • Cooper Cronk (QLD) – $11
  • James Maloney (NSW) – $11
  • Mitchell Pearce (NSW) – $11
  • Andrew Fifita (NSW) – $11

Andrew Fifita took out Man Of The Match honours in Game 1, but was relatively quiet last time out. Expect the big man to be looking to make an impact again. If Queensland upset the markets and win, then it will be down to Storm teammates Smith and Cronk.

Talking of the Melbourne Storm, six of their players line-up in the Queensland Game 3 State Of Origin team (Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, Cameron Smith, Will Chambers, Tim Glasby and Cameron Munster) and that could be very dangerous for the Blues with their team topping the NRL Ladder for a reason.

Exclusive to Ladbrokes.com.au are the State Of Origin odds – Footy Freaks – giving you the chance to enjoy both head-to-head markets and the popular tryscorer betting.

State Of Origin Odds: Footy Freaks

  • Valentine Holmes to score a try and Queensland win – $4.75
  • Cameron Munster to score a try and Queensland win – $7
  • Jarryd Hayne to score a try and New South Wales win – $4.75
  • James Maloney to score a try and New South Wales win – $6.5

Holmes was first tryscorer in Game 2 and the dynamic winger now has the benefit of an Origin game on the record, so will be going into the decider with even more value. The Maroons like to give those debutants plenty of ball and if that’s the case here, that’ll see Munster in the mix for a four-pointer.

Fancy the Blues to salute? Jarryd Hayne was another Game 1 star before going to sleep last time out, so he’ll be out to atone. James Maloney meanwhile is always underrated and has been absolutely on fire.
